What is Dr. Sketchy's?
Dr. Sketchy's is what happens when cabaret neets a life drawing class. Started in New York City in 2005 by Molly Crabapple, Dr. Sketchy's has spread into an international affair with branches as far away as Tokyo and Brisbaine. It features a healthy dose of gorgeous models, unique contests, and great prizes. There is also a good selection of food and drink, alcoholic and virgin, to be had.
I'm just a student/not a student/a pro/not an artist, is Dr. Sketchy's for me?
Yes! At Dr. Sketchy's we don't care what your qualifications are. Whether you've been drawing from birth or never picked up a sketch pad before, come join us for a drink or to draw a great model!
I'm only 18. Can I come?
Yes, you can. Moon River is both a brewery and a restaurant, so those under drinking age are still welcome.
What should I bring?
Plan to bring your own sketchbook and drawing media if at all possible. At any given event we may or may not have extras available for walkins. While some less messy wet media are acceptable, we encourage you to consider bringing dry media (pencils, charcoal, pastels, etc.) instead. If you make a mess, you get to stay and clean it up.
Will there be easels?
There are no easels, but we are lucky to have been given a large space to use by the good folks at the Moon River Brewing Co. and there are plenty of tables and chairs.
What?! This model isn't naked!
As Georgia has a whole fun list of laws regarding nudity and alcohol in the same establishment, we decided to just not touch that one. Don't despair, however, as our models generally show more than enough flesh for you to get a good study in anatomy.
Your model is smokin'! Is it cool if I try to pick her up during breaks?
No. It's not.
But I'm a photographer! Can I at least take pictures of her?
Possibly, but you need permission ahead of time. We do appreciate good photography, but a photographer at work is often both a distraction and disturbance for those trying to draw. Also, the model may not appreciate random people snapping photos of her. With that said, if you'd like to volunteer to shoot a few photos for us during an event we're happy to check out your portfolio, though the model will always have the final say. Anyone we catch taking photos without permission will be removed without refund.
Members of the press are always welcome to take photographs.
Can I model for Dr. Sketchy's?
We are always looking for new, interesting models. We pay a minimum $17 an hour plus tips. Dancers, derby girls, contortionists, body builders, and other performers are ideal. Those with awesome costuming skills or unique physiology and also encouraged to apply. We are mainly seeking women, but attractive, physically fit men that meet these requirements and are willing to pose with women may also be considered for sessions with multiple models.
If you wish to model for Dr. Sketchy's, please send us a bio or resume, a couple of low res photos, and a link to your website, if you have one. These can be emailed to Marlow.Jen@gmail.com. Models will have to sign a model release before each session and must be okay with their image, photos and other likenesses, being used on this site and in Dr. Sketchy's advertising.
I don't want to model. What else can I do?
Dr. Sketchy's can always use more people to spread the word around town (hang flyers, pass out postcards, post on messageboards and other websites), do graphic design for us, or just sell tickets and move chairs. Email us if you're interested. You'll have our thanks, love, and possibly free stuff depending on what's available at the time. Oh, and volunteers always get into the session in question for free.
This sounds pretty sweet. I own a business and would like to sponsor you. What's the deal?
We are always looking for sponsors! We will happily put your logo on our posters and website (with a link to yours), mention you in our newsletters and on stage, as well as love you bunches in exchange for donations of prizes, printing, or even cash. Drop an email to Jen@JenMarlowArt.com for more information.
